The Kaitoke Range Complex has been a part of the Rimutaka Incline recreation area for over 40 years. Located in the Pakuratahi Forest, north of Upper Hutt. The complex features a 200m main range, 20m pistol range and 25m bow range. The range complex is administered by the Hutt Valley branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers Association.

  

   

  

Range Access

The range is registered for use by appropriately trained members of the HVNZDA along with associated shooting and archery clubs. There is no casual public access at any time. 

All current members of the HVNZDA are eligible to use the Kaitoke Range Complex after going through the Range Use Induction (RUI) Briefing process. For more information email: hvnzda.range@gmail.com 

The range is available for casual use from 08:30 hrs to dusk, 7 days a week. Along with private bookings from authorized shooting clubs and commercial users. Check the range booking calendar when planning your visit.

All users are expected to make way for contractors and maintenance work.

All NZDA Hutt Valley Branch Inc. members who use the range, by doing so, agree to comply with club rules and current Range Standing Orders.

Range Bookings

Competitions are held most Sundays at our range by both the branch and other shooting organizations. Morning shoots usually start at 08:30 with afternoon shoots starting at 13:00 through to a preferred finish time of 16:30. To avoid getting to the range on a Saturday, or in some cases a week day, only to find that there is an organized shoot in progress. Please check the Range Calendar page before you leave. The range is available for private hire by HVNZDA members and approved clubs at 1/2 and full day rates. Note that Saturday's are seldom booked to provide for casual member use.

Note:

  • No firearms are to be used BEFORE 08:30 any day of the week out of respect for our neighbors.
  • For member's casual use of the range please check the club website for bookings and availability.
  • The range may be closed without notice if there is work required in the area adjacent to the range.
  • At all times, one member must act as Range Officer.
  • The Kaitoke Pistol Club runs casual shoots at the range every Wednesday night from 18:00, during daylight saving. Visitors are welcome to join them and have a go. The range is still able to be used by club members for other shooting
  • The venue is smoking and alcohol free.

Range Access DIGITAL APP KEYS & Rules

A gate access digital key can be issued to current HVNZDA financial members. The loaning of access keys to non-members is not permitted as the range is a private facility and requires users to be financial club members, comply with club rules, be fully conversant with the current Range Standing Orders and complete the Kaitoke Range Safety Course & RUI briefing.

Note: Gate access digital  APP keys are ONLY issued to new members after the completion of a Range User Induction (RUI) course. These are held on the last Sunday of every month at the Kaitoke Range Complex. Email HVNZDA.range@gmail.com for more information.
